The Modern GOP Movement is Built on Lies and Contempt
The modern Republican Party is built on a foundation of ingratitude. This is not hyperbole. This is not partisan attack. This is observable fact.
They took the most prosperous, powerful, free nation in human history and convinced their supporters it was a failure. They took the generation that won World War II, built the interstate highway system, put a man on the moon, and created the modern middle class—and told them they were victims.
The result is what we see today: tribes of ingrates, convinced that America was never great, that democracy never worked, that their fellow citizens are enemies to be defeated rather than neighbors to be served.

The Foundation: Ingratitude and Indecency
The modern GOP’s first and most essential lie was that America needed to be made great “again”—implying it had stopped being great. This required systematic ingratitude for everything America had actually achieved. Suddenly, decades of progress became decades of decline. The civil rights movement became oppression of white people. Women’s liberation became an attack on men. Immigration became invasion. Environmental protection became economic warfare. The free press became the enemy of the people.
To sell this narrative, they had to abandon decency. Truth became optional. Respect became weakness. Christian values became political props to be discarded when inconvenient.
Leadership gave permission for indecency. Standards were lowered. Partisanship became more important than patriotism. The logical endpoint was January 6th—a mob so convinced of lies that they attacked the Capitol in service of a defeated president’s ego.
The Progression: From Ingratitude to Victim-hood
Once you convince people that America was never truly great, the next step is inevitable: victim-hood. If America wasn’t great, then Americans—particularly white Americans—must be victims of someone else’s success.
“America First” became code for “I deserve more than you.” It took years of carefully crafted lies to convince early MAGA supporters that they had been cheated, ignored, replaced. But once that seed of ingratitude took root, it grew into full-blown victim-hood.
Woe is me. Look what I’m owed. Look what I’ll do to get it.
This victim-hood gave them permission to abandon every moral constraint. If you’re the victim, any action becomes justified. Any lie becomes acceptable. Cruelty becomes self-defense.
The most prosperous generation in human history convinced themselves they were oppressed. The most powerful nation on earth convinced itself it was weak. The freest people who ever lived convinced themselves they were enslaved.
The Weaponization: Power Through Grievance
With ingratitude established and victim-hood embraced, the final step was seizing power to “correct” these imaginary injustices. Facts became inconvenient, so they were abandoned. History became problematic, so it was rewritten. Institutions became obstacles, so they were attacked.
The playbook is simple but effective:
Remove truth and gratitude. Convince people that everything they should be thankful for is actually evidence of their oppression.
Play the victim to achieve power. Turn strength into weakness, success into failure, progress into decline.
Use imaginary debt as justification. We are owed greatness. We are owed dominance. We are owed victory.
Own the narrative to win power. Facts don’t matter if you control the story.
Make partisanship more important than truth. Loyalty to the party becomes more sacred than loyalty to country or conscience.
Once in power, weaponize government. Use every tool of the state to punish enemies and reward friends.
Information Apocalypse
This strategy succeeded beyond their wildest dreams because it coincided with the collapse of shared information. Social media created alternative dimensions where influence is measured by followers, truth is determined by engagement, and reality becomes whatever generates the most outrage.
People no longer know what is true because truth is no longer the goal. The goal is tribal victory. The goal is emotional satisfaction. The goal is the dopamine hit of righteous anger.
Technology companies built platforms that reward the most extreme voices and punish nuanced thinking. We know this is unhealthy. We know it’s destroying democratic discourse. We continue feeding it our attention, our time, our happiness.
Meanwhile, traditional media—flawed but still committed to some version of factual reporting—finds itself intimidated, overwhelmed, and increasingly irrelevant. The field is flooded with propaganda disguised as news, memes disguised as analysis, and lies disguised as patriotism.
We are no longer fact-checking. We are no longer demanding decency. We are no longer expecting honesty from our leaders.
When this becomes normal, we can no longer hold the line.
The Inevitable Extinction
But here’s what the modern GOP miscalculated: movements built on lies eventually collapse under the weight of reality. You cannot govern effectively while rejecting facts. You cannot build lasting power while abandoning principles. You cannot win long-term support while serving only a wealthy minority.
The modern GOP will become extinct because it has made itself incompatible with the future.
They abandoned diversity in the most diverse nation on earth. They rejected inclusion in a democracy that requires broad participation. They chose white grievance in a country that grows less white every year.
They made environmental destruction a core value in a world where climate change threatens everything. They chose corporate profits over clean air and water while young people watch their futures literally go up in smoke.
They weaponized Christianity while abandoning Christian values. They wrapped themselves in the flag while attacking democratic institutions. They claimed patriotism while teaching contempt for America’s actual history and achievements.
The Mathematics of Moral Reality
Hate cannot dominate—not in a world of instant communication, viral shame, and global accountability. White power disguised as political correctness resistance cannot survive in a multiracial democracy. Environmental destruction cannot continue indefinitely on a finite planet.
The young people inheriting this mess see through every lie. They understand that “America First” means “screw everyone else.” They recognize that “traditional values” means “traditional hierarchies.” They know that “economic freedom” means “freedom for the wealthy to exploit everyone else.”
Most importantly, they understand that a movement built on ingratitude for America’s achievements and contempt for America’s diversity is not patriotism—it is nihilism wrapped in a flag.
Ingratitude is not political strategy—it’s political suicide.
As the modern GOP becomes increasingly recognized as an enemy of the future, the young voters of this world will look at its institutions, its ideas, its cults of personality and hatred, and simply laugh.
Not the nervous laughter of discomfort, but the dismissive laughter reserved for historical curiosities. Like segregation. Like denying women the vote. Like other American embarrassments that once seemed permanent and now seem absurd.
They will cut themselves off from this tumor of ingratitude and indecency. They will build something better on the ruins of what the modern GOP destroyed. They will remember this era as a cautionary tale about what happens when a political movement abandons truth, decency, and gratitude for the greatest democratic experiment in human history.
You cannot build a lasting movement by teaching people to hate the country you claim to love. You cannot win permanent power by abandoning the principles that made that power worth having.
The tumor will die of shame. The question is how much damage it will do before it’s finally excised from the body politic.
That decision rests with those who still remember what America actually stands for, who still believe democracy is worth preserving, who still think gratitude is a virtue rather than a weakness.
Ingratitude or patriotism. Lies or truth. Tribes or democracy.
