To Parents Who Aren’t Paying Attention
In one week, your president launched a coordinated attack on your children’s health. Let’s recap in case you skipped these items.
Wednesday: Trump invoked the Defense Production Act—reserved for wartime emergencies—to accelerate production of glyphosate. That’s Roundup. The weedkiller Bayer is paying $7.25 billion to settle cancer lawsuits.
Trump declared glyphosate production “central to American economic and national security.”
Friday: The EPA rolled back the 2012 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards—regulations limiting mercury and other metal air pollutants like arsenic and lead, which have been linked to heart attacks, cancer, and developmental delays in children.
The EPA announced this rollback at a massive coal plant next to the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky. Not in a press release. At the pollution source itself.
Did you get all that. I know, you’re packing a healthy school lunch.
The Triple Betrayal
RFK Jr.—who won a $290 million verdict against Monsanto for a man who got cancer from Roundup—defended the glyphosate order.
His own Make America Healthy Again supporters called it “a sickening love letter from Trump to the largest pesticide companies in the world.”
Meanwhile, the Biden-era standards Trump just killed would have reduced mercury pollution from coal plants by 70%, cut emissions of nickel, arsenic, and lead by two-thirds, and saved $420 million in health costs through 2037.
Screw it. Let’s save coal companies money.
This guy is some piece of work. Intentionally harming us.
Obscene Justifications
Glyphosate order: Shields producers from regulatory pressure that might hurt Bayer’s business while they’re being sued for giving people cancer.
Mercury rollback: “Easing pollution standards for coal plants would alleviate costs for utilities at a time when demand for power is soaring amid expansion of data centers used for artificial intelligence.”
Meaning: Your kids breathe mercury so tech companies can build cheaper AI.
Human Rights Watch called mercury “one of the most toxic substances on earth” and said the rollback is “a setback for maternal and child health—among the most sensitive developmental stages, affecting people throughout their lives.”
What This Means
Toxic emissions from coal plants “can harm the brain development of young children and contribute to heart attacks and other problems in adults.”
Mercury is a neurotoxin. It impairs fetal brain development. It bioaccumulates in fish. It doesn’t go away.
And Trump just made it legal to dump more of it into the air your children breathe.
To Parents: This Should Be War
In one week, your government:
- Gave immunity to cancer-linked pesticide makers
- Rolled back protections against mercury, arsenic, and lead
- Called both moves “national security”
This isn’t policy. It’s a full frontal assault on children’s health disguised as energy independence.
Are you paying attention yet?
If you’re not furious, you’re not awake.
Kids deserve parents who fight back.
