Susan Watkins is a conservative soybean farmer in Virginia. She supported Trump. She served on the United Soybean Board for six years. In December she was selected as treasurer, overseeing a $121 million budget. In February she found out her appointment had been rejected by the USDA. No reason given. She scoured her own social media trying to figure out what she did wrong.

She didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just that she’s a woman.

The Trump administration rejected all four women farmers chosen by their peers to serve on the United Soybean Board. Among 40 new and reappointed directors, not one is a woman. The USDA gave no explanation. The White House declined to comment. The board itself didn’t respond.

They just swapped them out. Quietly. Without a word.

“We should be judged on our merit,” Watkins said. “It’s very disheartening.”

This is not a DEI story. This is a soybean board. These are farm women selected by their own farming communities — peer nominated, industry vetted, budget-qualified — removed by a federal government that couldn’t be bothered to explain why. Under two prior administrations, Republican and Democrat, this intervention never happened. Tom Vilsack served twelve years as Agriculture Secretary and could not recall a single comparable rejection.

So I have a simple question for every Republican elected official who has ever stood at a podium and talked about family, justice, respect, decency, merit, hard work – oh, and getting government out of people’s lives.

Why does this administration keep removing competent women and replacing them with men?

From the Pentagon. To the Cabinet. To the soybean board.

It is a pattern so consistent, so deliberate, so impervious to embarrassment that it cannot be called coincidence anymore. It is policy. Unwritten, unspoken, undeniable.

Susan Watkins voted for the president. She served her industry with distinction. She was selected by her peers. She was removed without cause or explanation by the government she trusted.

That’s not merit. That’s a message.

And every Republican who stays silent about it is co-signing it.
